Engineering Design Technology is an interdisciplinary curriculum that prepares graduates for a variety of positions in manufacturing design. All students complete a core set of courses selected to provide a well-rounded understanding of design. This program also allows students to select a focus for their design studies from two different tracks — Mechanical Design or Mechanical Engineering Design. Topics include hands-on instruction in current technical competency areas including Computer Aided Drafting (CAD), Machine and Tool Design, Computer Numerical Control (CNC), Electrical Design, 3–D Solid Modeling, CATIA and ENOVIA LCA. CATIA and ENOVIA courses are taught in conjunction with the National Institute of Aviation Research (NIAR).

In the construction of tunnels in the southwestern region of China, the super-deep burial depth results in extremely high ground stress. In the event of encountering soft rock, there is a potential risk of triggering severe deformation disasters, leading to issues such as support structure damage, project timeline delays, and a significant increase in costs. Therefore, there is an urgent need to propose an advanced stress-release technology to address the high-ground-stress issue caused by the super-deep burial in tunnels. It also determines the reasonable parameters for the advanced center drift. The research results indicate that setting the area of the advanced center drift to 60% of the area of the main tunnel is more reasonable. Additionally, positioning the vault of the advanced center drift at a distance of 2.0 m from the vault of the main tunnel can reduce stress concentration at the main tunnel’s vault.

A notable scholarship Engineering Technology students can apply for is the Fred Pirkle Endowed Scholarship. It is no less than $5,000 if awarded, and it is awarded to qualifying full-time undergraduate or graduate students majoring in a discipline with a curriculum dedicated to Engineering Technology. Students must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.50 for this scholarship, and it is a one-time award that students must reapply for future consideration. Our cutting-edge laboratories provide you with hands-on experiences in design, prototyping, electronics, safety, and electrical and renewable energy as well as metal, wood, and concrete construction for residential and commercial structures.
